A great many of us KNOW that SOMETHING is wrong to one degree or another in our towns but we stop short of actually taking action. In this woman’s case, the students knew what was wrong but were too intimidated to do what obviously needed to be done—until one student could not and would not remain helpless to act.

(That situation reminds me of the Milgram Experiment (1963) where people volunteered to participate in an experiment that measured their willingness to obey an authority figure to the seeming harm of another person. That experiment revealed that most of us will fail to honor our inner voice that is becoming louder and louder for us to DO SOMETHING. The actions required in these two instances were to STOP something from continuing to happen.

It could be said that we are living our own Milgram Experiment every day in our own towns.

There are about 6-8 of us here in my town who are paying attention to the lizards who are running this town into the ground. One of them has become a pit bull in her dedication to watching every many-hours-long council meeting and then time-stamping and highlighting the slippery stuff that is going on; one attends every meeting with her husband–she is incredibly privy to information that few others seem to have; the others will do stand-outs, wave flags, gather signatures when needed; and me.

Some others will comment on facebook but that’s as far as they will go. The intimidation is real here; I’ve seen some of what they can do. The tax burden is huge and shows no sign of changing. In this pathetic state, the lizards at the state level have made a “law” that allows the public servants who run the towns to “legally” take your house, in totality, if you fall behind in your tax payments for a certain length of time…..leaving you homeless with no recourse. Any thinking person should at least question this……and that’s the problem…we’ve been conditioned to believe that these actions are “legal” and therefore warranted….we are not thinking things through.

We Americans have been kept in the dark about the things we should be doing, how to do them, and why to do them. This has been by design. We’ve become spectators who see at a very superficial level because we have no idea what our country was meant to be, right down to the local level.

This leaves many of us wringing our hands because we see some of the wrongdoing around us but have no idea what a next step might be. In my mind, learning these things allows us to formulate questions that were not possible previously. I don’t have all the answers yet but I at least know the path that can produce change.

The question is, how long will we allow ourselves to be either anguished observers or active participants who can intelligently participate in guiding our towns back to what they were meant to be?

We must get involved because that’s our rightful duty and responsibility. I never knew that and you can be sure that most Americans have no idea. But getting involved without knowing how our government is supposed to be run, what our sacred rights are, and exactly what our public servants can and cannot do and are SUPPOSED to do is an exercise in futility. Our founders laid it all out; they left us a blueprint for our success but we must avail ourselves of that precious information.

With that information, we can help bring the rightful and needed changes by forming our own Committees of Safety, running as a committeeman regardless of party identity, and making ourselves available to serve on a common law grand jury. Do we know how to do these things?
